Today I had a great helper in my classroom, one who can really go with the flow, and that gave me the chance to really watch what the children were choosing. It is so great to be able to share how children choose in the classroom. I think it communicates a lot about how they are growing and developing. I just wish more parents appreciated the importance of children learning how to choose.
It's amazing, isn't it? In college we had to do an activity where we observed choice time and we mapped where the children went and how long they spent there. It was fascinating! I'd love to be able to do that again, but there always seems to be something to attend to.
